Two female sex researchers at Indiana University, Dr. Debby Herbenick and Dr. Vanessa Schick, are looking for both women and men 18 or over to participate in their study on “Vulvovaginal Attitudes and Health”. The anonymous study will encompass questions related to participants’ feelings and attitudes on vulvas and vaginas, including sexual experiences. The study is limited to 500 people and is also voluntary, meaning there is no compensation offered to complete the study questionnaire. So if any Vagina Adventures blog readers are interested, click on the link to the official study Information Sheet to see if it piques your interest.

I’m planning on completing the survey in the name of vulvas and vaginas. I hope the researchers will be able to draw some intriguing conclusions about our attitudes toward female anatomy and sex. I’m especially interested in why the researchers didn’t solely configure a sex study about vaginas. I’m not saying this facetiously. The researchers are including vulvas in the study. Vulvas are defined as the female external genitalia encompassing the mons, labia, clit, hymen, urethra and perineum. I know this anatomical detail due to my Anatomy and Fizz classes; I probably wouldn’t have known the exact definition of vulvas otherwise. And I’m wondering if this study will also query the participants if they know what the difference is between vulvas and vaginas.
